What is wisdom teeth extraction?

Wisdom teeth extraction consists in removing the third molars in the mouth. Sometimes wisdom teeth grow in the wrong direction, lack space, cause pain, cause infection or develop cavities. Upon examination, we will determine if removal of the wisdom teeth is necessary or not. If they are well positioned and do not cause problems, you can keep them. However, if they are symptomatic, meaning that they are harmful or are likely to become, we will recommend extraction.

During your consultation appointment, we will evaluate different options for performing the dental extraction without anxiety or pain. We will offer extraction procedures under local anesthesia, intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia.

Who is targeted by this procedure

Wisdom teeth normally appear between the age of 16 and 25 years old. It is recommended that a maxillofacial surgeon examines these teeth around the age of 16 before they cause problems. It is easier and less of a risk to have these teeth removed before the roots are fully formed. For this reason, it is best not to wait until adulthood to have these teeth assessed at by a specialist.
